Introducción Have you ever felt that somebody was a hopeless case? That he or she was never going to come to Christ? Maybe it was an alcoholic relative, a drug-addicted parent, or a co-dependent neighbor – someone with a hurt, habit, or hang-up that kept them from knowing God. The Bible says in Hebrews 7:25 (NIV), “Therefore [Jesus] is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.” No one is outside of Jesus’ reach. Events: Kick Ball Tournament, Tug-a-war, field events, & Children's games! Place: Harlon Block Park            (same location as before!) Time: 5:00 pm - ?? What to Take: The ladies will be organized to bring the fixins, and Bro. Joe will be BBQing chicken, fajitas, sausage, and a mouth watering surprise!  Mmmm, mmmm!  I can taste it! The youth are scheduled to serve the food as organized by our Youth Pastor Rachel.  Everyone dress casual and don't forget to bring your chairs.  Come out and let's have a great time and invite family and friends to our outing!  See who wins the trophy for Kick Ball! After the service, the pastor’s wife will ask for the side dishes and drinks.

7 Marcos 2: 1 – 12  1 Entró Jesús otra vez en Capernaum después de algunos días; y se oyó que estaba en casa.     2 E inmediatamente se juntaron muchos, de manera que ya no cabían ni aun a la puerta; y les predicaba la palabra.     3 Entonces vinieron a él unos trayendo un paralítico, que era cargado por cuatro.     4 Y como no podían acercarse a él a causa de la multitud, descubrieron el techo de donde estaba, y haciendo una abertura, bajaron el lecho en que yacía el paralítico.     5 Al ver Jesús la fe de ellos, dijo al paralítico: Hijo, tus pecados te son perdonados.     6 Estaban allí sentados algunos de los escribas, los cuales cavilaban en sus corazones: I believe that small groups are a vital part of helping so-called hopeless people find healing. One of the parts I like best about being in a small group is that you can pray for one another’s “hopeless” cases. We can lean upon the faith of others when we start to doubt. In last week’s issue, we looked at the Gospel accounts of four guys who took their paralyzed friend to Jesus. It’s a great story of a small group of men who took someone in need of healing to the feet of Jesus. In this account, we find seven characteristics of a small group that God uses to heal.

8 Compasión Romanos 15:2 “Cada uno de nosotros agrade a su prójimo en lo que es bueno, para edificación.” Siete Funciones de la Palabra: 1. Compassion/ Compasión: This man was healed because his friends cared. Pastor, it all starts with us caring about people who are hurting. Romans 15:2 (NLT) says, “We should help others do what is right and build them up in the Lord.” Romanos 15:2 2 Cada uno de nosotros agrade a su prójimo en lo que es bueno, para edificación. Every ministry and every mission must flow out of love, or it doesn’t matter. Many churches don’t reach out to those around them who need healing because they lack love – let’s be honest about that. The alcoholic might vomit on their new carpet. The drug addict may let a few choice words slip out. And what about those other people they might bring to church? God used these four guys because they were sensitive to a friend’s need. And he’ll use us when we aren’t preoccupied with our own needs and start caring more about others than we do ourselves.

9 Fe Lucas 5:20 and Job 6:14 Lucas 5:20, “Al ver él la fe de ellos, le dijo: Hombre, tus pecados te son perdonados.” Job 6:14, “El atribulado es consolado por su compañero; aun aquel que abandona el temor del Omnipotente.” 2. Faith/Fe: The four men believed God would heal their friend. Take a close look at Luke 5:20 (NIV): “When Jesus saw their faith, he said, ‘Friend, your sins are forgiven.’” Lucas 5:20  20 Al ver él la fe de ellos, le dijo: Hombre, tus pecados te son perdonados. It wasn’t the paralytic’s faith that made him well – it was the faith of his friends. How many people do you know who are so paralyzed they can’t believe in God? That’s when we have to believe for them. Job 6:14 (NLT) says, “One should be kind to a fainting friend, but you accuse me without any fear of the Almighty.” Job 6:14 (Nueva Versión Internacional) 14 »Aunque uno se aparte del temor al Todopoderoso,       el amigo no le niega su lealtad. Faith plays an important role in spiritual battles.

10 Intervención: Lucas 14:23 “Dijo el señor al siervo: Vé por los caminos y por los vallados, y fuérzalos a entrar, para que se llene mi casa.” 3. Intervention/Intervención: These four friends didn’t just pray for their friend; they took action as well. The Bible says they brought to Jesus a man who was paralyzed and lying on a mat. He couldn’t get to Jesus on his own. It’s not enough just to pray for someone who is hurting and caught in sin. We have to take action. Sometimes a friend (or four friends) has to say, “I’m taking you to church.” No isn’t an appropriate answer. Jesus says in Luke 14:23, “Go out into the highways and the hedges and compel them to come in that my house will be full.” Lucas 14:23 (Reina-Valera 1960) 23 Dijo el señor al siervo: Vé por los caminos y por los vallados, y fuérzalos a entrar, para que se llene mi casa. There’s a slew of examples in the Bible of people taking others to Jesus. Everybody is not a soul winner, but everybody is a bringer. Friends care enough to force the issue.

11 Persistencia: Gálatas 6:9
“No nos cansemos, pues, de hacer bien; porque a su tiempo segaremos, si no desmayamos.” 4. Persistence/Persistencia: The four friends didn’t let difficulties discourage them. It didn’t matter that crowds were between them and Jesus. We all get discouraged as we try to reach our family, friends, and acquaintances with the gospel. But we can’t give up. Love gives us no choice. Galatians 6:9 says, “Let us not get tired of doing what’s right for after while we’ll reap a harvest of blessing.” Gálatas 6:9 (Reina-Valera 1960) 9 No nos cansemos, pues, de hacer bien; porque a su tiempo segaremos, si no desmayamos. God’s patient, and he want us to be patient as well.

12 Innovación: Marcos 2: 3 – 4 “Entonces vinieron a él unos trayendo un paralítico, que era cargado por cuatro. Y como no podían acercarse a él a causa de la multitud, descubrieron el techo de donde estaba, y haciendo una abertura, bajaron el lecho en que yacía el paralítico.” 5. Innovation/Innovación: These friends dared to do something different. It’s pretty innovative to get up on a roof and tear it apart to get a guy to Jesus. Imagine the mess they made! At Saddleback we have what we call the “No Mess, No Ministry” principle. Ministry is messy because it involves people. Small groups that won’t step out of the box won’t be willing to be messy enough to be instruments of healing. 13 Cooperación: Lucas 5: 17 – 18 Aconteció un día, que él estaba enseñando, y estaban sentados los fariseos y doctores de la ley, los cuales habían venido de todas las aldeas de Galilea, y de Judea y Jerusalén; y el poder del Señor estaba con él para sanar. Y sucedió que unos hombres que traían en un lecho a un hombre que estaba paralítico, procuraban llevarle adentro y ponerle delante de él. Cooperation/Cooperación: Obviously, these four friends worked together to bring their friend to Jesus. What happens if you have three people working together to lower a man through a roof using a blanket? It’s not pretty! The four friends had to cooperate. It was too big of a job for one guy. It’s the same way with small groups. People come to Christ faster when they do it in the context of a supportive small group. A supportive community is a powerful witness to God. 9 "Por eso, a ustedes, mis discípulos, yo les aconsejo que usen el dinero ganado deshonestamente para ganar amigos. Así, cuando se les acabe ese dinero, Dios los recibirá en el cielo. 7. Sacrifice/Sacrificio: Have you ever wondered who paid for the roof in this story? I think the four friends did. They wouldn’t just tear it up and leave it for someone else to fix. There is always a cost to bringing people to Christ. Whether it’s time, money, effort, or whatever, there’s a cost to bringing someone to Christ. Luke 16:9 (NLT) says, “Use your worldly resources to benefit others and make\friends. Then, when your earthly possessions are gone, they will welcome you to an eternal home.” Lucas 16:9 (Biblia en Lenguaje Sencillo) 9 "Por eso, a ustedes, mis discípulos, yo les aconsejo que usen el dinero ganado deshonestamente para ganar amigos. Así, cuando se les acabe ese dinero, Dios los recibirá en el cielo. Small groups must be willing to make sacrifices if they’re going to be agents of healing in the world.

15 conclusión: Marcos 2: 7 – 12 7 ¿Por qué habla éste así? Blasfemias dice. ¿Quién puede perdonar pecados, sino sólo Dios? 8 Y conociendo luego Jesús en su espíritu que cavilaban de esta manera dentro de sí mismos, les dijo: ¿Por qué caviláis así en vuestros corazones? 9 ¿Qué es más fácil, decir al paralítico: Tus pecados te son perdonados, o decirle: Levántate, toma tu lecho y anda? 10 Pues para que sepáis que el Hijo del Hombre tiene potestad en la tierra para perdonar pecados (dijo al paralítico): 11 A ti te digo: Levántate, toma tu lecho, y vete a tu casa. 12 Entonces él se levantó en seguida, y tomando su lecho, salió delante de todos, de manera que todos se asombraron, y glorificaron a Dios, diciendo: Nunca hemos visto tal cosa. Conclusión Marcos 2: 7 – 12 7 ¿Por qué habla éste así?
