Using commas in the opening and closing of a letter. In reading… This month we will leave folk tales and venture into the world of non-fiction. Our reading theme this month is all about people and places around the world. We will be exploring different countries and cultures and how their customs, foods, and celebrations are intergraded into America today. In our nonfiction reading we will be working on using text features. When the occasion arises, point out things like the table of contents, glossary, and index. This will be very beneficial to your child. Sequencing instructions is another reading skill we are working on this month. Anytime you can have your child sit down and follow the instructions on a recipe or craft will help cement in those skills. In writing we are going to start writing informative paragraphs. We will be taking information from our reading and using that in our writing. November 2015 In Math…  We have just wrapped up mastering Breaking Apart Addends to solve 3 digit Addition word problems & adding up to 4 2-digit numbers using various strategies  We will continue on to Subtraction of 3 digit numbers using Base Ten Blocks, Open Number Line, and Place Value Chart  In conjunction, students will utilize mental Math to add and subtract numbers from 100 to 900.  We will also be solving one & two step word problems involving Addition and Subtraction using an unknown variable In Science …  Students are having a blast learning about the ocean habitat. The perfectly timed Monterey Field Trip/lab experience, and the visual access to YouTube videos have fully enhanced the students’ ocean life experience. Meanwhile, students are in the midst of creating a group ocean animal report using TCI Ocean Data and researching online Epic books which they will be presenting to the class.  Our next exciting trekking exploration is… we will be journeying into the rainforest!

En la lectura… Este mes dejaremos los cuento populares y aventuraremos al mundo de la no ficción. Nuestro tema de lectura este mes es todo sobre personas y lugares de todo el mundo. Estaremos explorando diferentes ciudades y culturas y sus costumbres, comidas y celebraciones como han sido integrada en América hoy en día. En nuestra lectura de no ficción estaremos trabajando sobre el uso de las características del texto. Cuando se presenta la ocasión, señalaremos cosas como la tabla de contenido, glosario e índice. Esto le beneficiara a su hijo. Secuencia de Instrucción es otra habilidad en la que estaremos trabajando este mes. En cualquier momento usted se puede sentar con su niño y seguir instrucciones para una receta o artesanía y esto le ayudara a cementar esta habilidad. En escritura empezaremos a escribir párrafos informativos. Estaremos tomando información de nuestra lectura y la usaremos en la escritura. En Matemáticas…  Acabamos de terminar la maestría de ruptura de sumados para resolver problemas de adición 3 dígitos y la adición de hasta 4 números de 2 dígitos utilizando diversas estrategias.  Continuaremos con las Restas de numero de 3 dígitos usando la tabla de 10 cuadros, Línea abierta de numero, y grafico de lugar de valor.  en conjunto, los estudiantes utilizarán el cálculo mental para sumar y restar números  También vamos a resolver problemas de palabras de uno y dos paso de suma y resta usando una variable desconocidos. En Ciencia …  Los estudiantes se están divirtiendo aprendiendo sobre el hábitat del océano. El viaje a Monterey sucedió en un momento perfecto donde pudieron tuvieron la experiencia de ir al laboratorio y el acceso visual a videos en han han mejorado totalmente la experiencia de los estudiantes de estudiar la vida marina.
