Some other instances when it is used are:  Habitual actions  Actions that take place often, such as a job, breakfast, etc, can be expressed with the Spanish present.  Trabajo en una oficina de correos – I work in a post office  Hypothisizing  If Juan cooks, I eat - Si cocina Juan, como  Timelessness, Universal truth/Ideas  Two plus two is four-Dos mas dos es cuatro.  Man is mortal - El hombre es mortal.  Continuing Past Events  This is used for events that started in the past, but continue today. These sentences are constructed with  hace + time + que + present tense verb  We’ve been riding this train for 15 hours. - Hace quince horas que andamos este tren.

Conjugation is making a verb work with the subject (I, you, us, him, her, etc.). While there are thousands of Spanish verbs, all but a few fall under one of three ways of conjugation, depending on the verb ending.
