The Future Tense -original PowerPoint created by Mrs. Shirley of North Intermediate High School in Broken Arrow, OK

The Future Tense You have learned one way to talk about future events. It is by using ir + a + infinitive Este domingo voy a reciclar todos las botellas.

The Future Tense Another way is to use the future tense. When using this you are saying “will + verb” in English. For most verbs, the stem for the future tense is the infinitive and there is only one set of endings, so learning this tense is easy.

The Future Tense Since you are using the infinitive as the stem, you don’t have to differentiate among the 3 infinitive endings. There are irregular future tense verbs but we will learn them at a different time.

The Future Tense Following are the endings that you will use and the conjugations of hablar, aprender, and vivir in the future tense. Note that all three kinds of verbs have the same endings. All forms have a written accent except the nosotros form.

Future Tense Endings -é -ás -á -emos -án

HABLAR hablaré hablarás hablará hablaremos hablarán

APRENDER aprenderé aprenderás aprenderá aprenderemos aprenderán

VIVIR viviré vivirás vivirá viviremos vivirán

The Future Tense Mañana comenzaremos el trabajo. Tomorrow we will begin work. El futuro será mejor. The future will be better.
