El Nitri was born in El puerto de Santa María arround His real name was Tomás Vargas Suárez Ortega de la Seda. He was nephew of El Fillo.HE was a great interpreter of siguiriyas of wich we still have some parts of its. All his live is a little confusing, some people think he died very early and with a very big ilness and another people say that he died when he was already old, we really don`t know it exactly. When he recived the key of gold its also a misterious date but we think it was in 1868 when he was 18.It was the first time that a flamenco singer won it.We supose that he died whe he was 80 in Cádiz Volver

His club is in the place where he waws born in El Puerto de Santa Maria. It’s adress is Diego Niño road in the old part of the city, the centre, near San Miguel’s monsastry. There they remember his songs and they try to do it like he did it now a hundred years before. Volver

Tomas el Nitri, had some strage things arround his live.Probably the most important was that he never wanted to sing with his competidor Silverio Franconetti and in fact he never did. Its also unknown the place where he was born but we supose that he was born in El Puerto because they have founded his papers of being born in El puerto more exactly in the church la Prioral.People also say many things about it but most of them are not true. Volver

Of him you can’t hear any songs because he didn’t record any, but we still have some pieces of his songs, which we will show you now.he sang siguiriyas there goes one “Por aquella ventana al campo, / le daba voces a la mare e mi arma / y no me respondía". There goes another one that we present you: «Oleaítas e la ma furiosa / que fuertes venés / y a la probe mare de mi alma / no me la traé». And also «Arbolito der campo / riega el rocío / como yo riego las pieras de tu calle con el llanto mío».These are some of his songs the siriguiyas.
