2  In this lesson you will learn to: talk about what clothes you want to buy say what you wear in different season use tener expressions learn stem-changing verbs: e-ie learn direct object pronouns

3  In Spanish, some verbs have a stem change in the present tense.  Stem-changing verbs have regular-ar,-er & -ir present tense endings.  Stem-changing verbs e-ie. Querer=to want quieroqueremos quieresqueréis quierequieren **You have a stem change in all except nosotoros/as and vosotros/as!!

4  cerrar=to close  empezar=to start  entender=to understand  pensar=to think, to plan to  preferir= to prefer

5  Notice that when one verb follows another, the first verb is conjugated and the second is in its infinitive form.  Ella piensa almorzar con Maria.  Yo prefiero hablar.  Nosotros queremos ir al cine.  Yo como la hamburguesa y bebo el agua.

8  Tener is used to form many expression that in English you would use the verb to be.  Tener calor = to be hot  Tener frío = to be cold  Tener razón = to be right  Tener suerte = to be lucky En el invierno tengo frío. Yo tengo mucha suerte.

9 1. Yo siempre encuentro dinero. (encontrar) Yo________________ 2. A mí me gusta discutir. Yo siempre _________.Mi hermano no sabe(knows) nada. 3. Cuando voy a la playa yo___________. 4. Cuando voy a las montañas yo___________.

11  Remember direct object receives the action of the verb.  They answer the question whom or what? about the verb.  What is the direct object? 1. I sell the book. 2. You want the shirts. 3. He buys the red skirt. 4. We visit Jane. 5. They have a cat.

12  Direct object pronouns can be used to replace the direct object nouns.  Change the direct object with the direct object pronoun. 1. I sell the book. 2. You want the shirts. 3. He buys the red skirt. 4. We visit Jane. 5. They have a cat.

13  me (me)nos (us)  te (you)os(you pl)  lo(you,him,it)los (you pl, them)  la (you, her,it)las (you pl, them)  The direct object pronoun is placed before the conjugated verb.  Yo quiero el libro. Yo lo quiero.

14  When an infinitive follows the conjugated verb, the direct object pronoun can be placed before the conjugated verb or attached to the infinitive.  Yo lo quiero comprar. (book)  Yo quiero comprarlo. (book)

15  Change the following sentences to say what the following people don’t want the following items. Change the direct object with the correct direct object pronoun. 1. Yo quiero los pantalones. 2. Ella quiere el sombrero. 3. Yo quiero comer las papas fritas. 4. Nosotros queremos el gorro. 5. Mi amiga quiere la blusa. 6. Vosotros queréis visitar los abuelos. 7. Ustedes quieren beber agua. 8. Tú quieres los jeans. Translate: 1. I understand her. 2. You understand me.

16  Change the direct object with direct object pronoun. 1. ¿Quieres los pantalones? 2. ¿Tienes el vestido? 3. ¿Quieres visitar tu hermano? 4. ¿Compras la ropa? 5. ¿Llevas los jeans? 6. ¿Vendes las chaquetas? 7. ¿Tú me entiendes? 8. ¿Venden ustedes las camisas rojas?
