Total Cost in USD Million : $46.96 Project Description: Mexicali's East Sector lacks a wastewater collection system and consequently the population disposes of the sewage improperly, this condition poses a threat to their health, the environment and the aquifer. Moreover, the infiltration of this discharges are polluting the Rio Nuevo a river that discharges to the United States. Community Benefits: The expansion of the wastewater collection system will allow collecting 100% of the wastewater generated in Mexicali IV, thus reducing the potential for human contact with raw wastewater and vectors carrying diseases. Additionally, the risk of contaminating the aquifer and surface water bodies would be significantly reduced by eliminating latrines and cesspools. The collected wastewater would be treated at the Las Arenitas WWTP and then discharged into a drain that eventually reach the Hardy River, all of which results in environmental and human health benefits for the residents of Mexicali and United States. Costo Total en Millones de Dólares: $46.96 Descripción del Proyecto: La zona oriente de la Cd. de Mexicali, carece del servicio de alcantarillado y esto provoca la disposición de excretas humanas de modo inconveniente provocando riesgos de salud y contaminando suelo y aguas freáticas así como drenes que aportan su flujo hacia el Rio Nuevo que escurre hacia Estados Unidos. Beneficios a la Comunidad: Las obras de alcantarillado propuestas permitirán recolectar las aguas residuales del 100 % de la zona denominada como Mexicali IV, reduciendo el potencial de contacto de los habitantes con las aguas residuales y con organismos vectores de enfermedades propiciadas por estos; también, se reducirá el potencial de contaminación de las aguas subterráneas y superficiales al eliminarse el uso de letrinas, fosas sépticas y drenes a cielo abierto. El efluente de la planta de tratamiento proyectada se descargará a un dren y eventualmente al Río Hardy, aportando un beneficio ambiental y a la salud humana a los residentes del Municipio de Mexicali y las zonas aledañas de los EEUU.
