Transcripción de la presentación:

21 Es el 14 de octubre. The Verb gustar By Jami Sipe

The verb gustar does not translate well into English. Por ejemplo: Me gusta el libro. In English, we would say, “I like the book.” but the meaning is really closer to “The book is pleasing to me.”

Indirect Object Pronouns Gustar is used with indirect object pronouns not subject pronouns. Indirect Object Pronouns Singular me (me) te (you, familiar) le (you, formal/him/her) Plural nos (us) os (you, ya’ll, you all familiar - Spain) les (you/them)

Use gusta if the thing you like is singular or an infinitive. Gustar has only 2 forms: Use gusta if the thing you like is singular or an infinitive. Ejemplo: Me gusta el libro. = (I like the book.) Me gusta bailar. = (I like to dance.) Use gustan if the things you like are plural. Ejemplo: Me gustan los tacos. = (I like tacos.)

To talk about likes and dislikes with gustar … Use this formula! (indirect object pronoun) + form of gustar + what you like

Me gusta la casa. = (I like the house.) Ejemplos: Singular Me gusta la casa. = (I like the house.) Te gusta el fútbol. = (You [fam] like soccer.) Le gusta cantar. = (He/She likes to sing./You [for] like to sing.) Nos gusta leer en español. = (We like to read in Spanish.)

Me gustan las fresas. = (I like strawberries.) Más ejemplos: Plural Me gustan las fresas. = (I like strawberries.) Te gustan el béisbol y el baloncesto. = (You [fam] like baseball and basketball.) Nos gustan los churros. = (We like churros.) Les gustan las papas fritas. = (You all like French fries./They all like French fries.)

No me gusta tomar un examen. = (I do not like to take a test.) To say someone does not like something, or does not like to do something use “no” before the phrase. Ejemplos: No me gusta el pescado. = (I don’t like fish.) No me gusta tomar un examen. = (I do not like to take a test.)

For purpose of clarification When you want to specify who the subject is, use A (person or subject pronoun) at the beginning: A mí me gustan las manzanas. A tí te gusta la sopa. A Cesar le gusta la casa. A José y Jorge les gusta la bandera.

Preguntas ¿Te gusta leer? ¿Te gusta perder? ¿Te gustan las uvas o las naranjas? ¿Qué clases te gustan? Sí, me gusta leer. No, no me gusta perder. Me gustan las uvas. Me gustan el español y la biología.
