Pronouns With Commands

Commands (Review)  Other than the tú affirmative commands, which use the él/ella/usted form in the present tense, all other commands start with the yo form present tense, then drop the O and switch to the opposite ending.

Direct Object Pronouns  Direct Object Pronouns show WHAT directly received the action.  Ella come la galleta.   Ella la come. MENOS TEOS LO, LALOS, LAS

Indirect Object Pronouns  Indirect Object Pronouns show TO WHOM the action indirectly occurred.  Ella da la galleta a mí.   Ella me da la galleta. MENOS TEOS LELES

Reflexive Pronouns  Reflexive Pronouns show that the person received the impact of their OWN action.  She bathes herself.   Ella se baña. MENOS TEOS SE

Multiple Pronouns  If you have a combination of pronouns, this rhyme will help you remember the order to put them in: Indirect Before Direct, Reflexives First Of All!  And if both pronouns start with the letter L, the LE or LES changes to SE.

Pronouns With Commands  If you have an AFFIRMATIVE command, the pronouns are attached to the end of the command. You may need to add an accent to maintain the original syllable of emphasis.

Impersonal Phrases + Infinitives

Impersonal Phrases  To suggest something that should or should not happen, we can use this formula: Form of SER + ADJECTIVE+ INFINITIVE VERB

Práctica  Es bueno aprender las matemáticas.  Fue necesario explicar la situación.  Va a ser importante responder a cada pregunta.  It’s bad to drink five cups of coffee.  It was difficult to watch the TV show.  It’s going to be easy to do this project.

Práctica  It’s good to learn math.  It was necessary to explain the situation.  It’s going to be important to respond to each question.  Es malo beber cinco tazas de café.  Es difícil mirar el programa de televisión.  Va a ser fácil hacer este proyecto.

Impersonal Se

 Sometimes we want to say that something is DONE without mentioning who is doing it. One way to do that in Spanish is the impersonal SE. We only use this in the él/ella/usted and ellos/ellas/ustedes forms.

Práctica  Se habla español en la oficina.  Se venden las casas.  Se traducen las revistas.  All the flyers are published.  The interview is broadcast.  The telethon is sponsored.
