3  to find a direct object in a sentence… Find the subject. Find the verb. Ask “ What ?” or “ Whom ?” AFTER the verb. The answer is the direct object (DO). Direct Objects S V DO  Por ejemplo: I passed the bus.

4  direct object pronouns replace direct objects to avoid repetition Direct Object Pronouns (DOPs)  Por ejemplo: I bought the car. I drove the car to my house and parked the car in the garage. I bought the car. I drove it to my house and parked it in the garage. DOP  lo, la, los, & las can refer to both objects & people  me, te, nos, & os refer ONLY to people

5  In Spanish, the following pronouns are used to replace the direct object (objects or people): Direct Object Pronouns (DOPs) me (me) nos (us) te (you) os (you all – informal) *Spain* lo, la (him, her, it, you – for) los, las ( them, you all – for)

6  BEFORE conjugated verb in an affirmative sentence with one verb Position of DOPs  Por ejemplo: Yo necesité tu ayuda con mi tarea. Tú me ayudaste después de las clases ayer.  BETWEEN the “no” and the conjugated verb in a negative sentence  Por ejemplo: ¿Puedes llevar a Juan y a mi al cine? No, no los puedo llevar al cine.

7  ATTACH it to an infinitive or present participle (present progressive – “-ing” ) can also be placed in front of the conjugated verb Position of DOPs  For Example: Estudiantes, estoy enseñando. Ustedes tienen que escuchar me. ¿Están escuchándo me ? No señora, no te escuchamos.

8  the subject and the verb ending tell who does the action and the direct object pronoun indicates who receives the action RECUERDAS …

9 PRACTICAMOS…  She does not understand you. Ella no te entiende.  They want to take us to the plaza. Ellos quieren llevar nos a la plaza.  You bought me a blue car. Me compraste un coche azul.  We looked for her. Nosotros la buscamos.
