Time for a little grammar

Direct Objects A direct object is the person or thing in a sentence that directly receives the action of the verb. They answer the question “WHO” or “WHAT”

Example: They see THE STORE (they see WHAT?) Diego sees CARLA (Diego sees WHOM?)

Sometimes, a direct object pronoun is used to replace the noun (the WHO or WHAT) Example: They see THE STORE  They see IT Diego sees CARLA  Diego sees HER

The direct object pronouns are: Me  Me Te  Tú Lo  Him, It, You (formal/UD.) La  Her, It, You (formal/UD.) Nos  Us Os  Y’all (vosotros) Los  Them, You (formal, plural/UDS.) Las  Them, You (formal, plural/ UDS.)

In Spanish, the direct object pronoun (D.O.P) comes before the conjugated verb. In negative expressions, the “NO” comes before the D.O.P The D.O.Ps lo, la, los, and las can refer to people or things.

Ejemplos: I do not see her No la veo   I do not see it We never see her Nunca lo vemos   We never see it

Just a reminder on how to make a sentence negative: ✔ Place the negative like no, or nunca (never) before the the verb (and D.O.P if there is one). Ejemlos: Mis amigos no están en la tienda My friends are not in the store No tengo mucho dinero I do not have a lot of money Elena no las tiene tampoco Elena does not have them either Nunca cantas You never sing
