When do I use the imperfect tense? We use the imperfect to talk about actions that occurred in the past.

Imperfect tense Good news….Almost all verbs are REGULAR! There are only 2 conjugational endings that you will need to learn:  -regular –ar endings  -regular –er/-ir endings (are the same)

Huh? I thought the preterite was the past… Yes, this is true! However, the imperfect speaks of actions in the past that… 1.)Used to happen Mirábamos dibujos animados los sábados. We used to watch cartoons on Saturday.

… 2.)What happened repeatedly Cada domingo asistía la iglesia. Every Sunday I attended church.

… 3.)What was going on when something else happened. Estudiaba cuando sonó el teléfono. I was studying when the phone rang.

…. 4.)Physical descriptions Era un hombre alto, moreno y guapo. He was a tall, dark and handsome man.
