2 Notes #17 Standard and Objective n Standard: Students demonstrate an understanding of and interpret written and spoke language on a variety of topics. n Objective: Students will develop basic knowledge of the imperfect (past) tense using -ar, -ir, -er verbs to express ongoing past actions.

3 The Imperfect n Use this tense when you talk about what people used to do in the past (continuous)

4 To form the imperfect of -ar verbs, drop the -ar and substitute the following endings: -ábamos X-aban -aba -abas -aba

5 Hablar in the Imperfect hablabahablabashablaba hablábamos X hablaban

6 To form the imperfect of -er/-ir verbs, drop the -er/-ir and substitute the following endings: -ía-ías-ía -íamos X -ían

7 The conjugation of comer is: comíamos Xcomían comía comías comía

8 Only three verbs are irregular in the imperfect, ser, ir, and ver.
