El que las Familias se involucren en la Educación de nuestros niños, es la mejor INVERSIÓN que una Familia pueda hacer. WELCOME TO THE ESL FAMILY NIGHT!!! FAMILY INVOLVEMENT in EDUCATION is one of the best INVESTMENTS a Family can make.

Elizabeth Traditional Elementary School ESL Family Night “ Together, we can do so much to raise our children to be Leaders ” ESL students will participate actively during the ESL Family Night by sharing with families “The Leader in Me seven habits”. “ Leadership is communicating people’s worth and potential so clearly that they are inspired to see it in themselves” Stephen Covey

Choose your attitude: BELIEVE in yourself. (You KNOW what’s on the test). Get a good night’s sleep before assessments (EOG’s) Choose your work habits DURING EOGs, reading and Math assessments. Habit 1 : Be Proactive “I am in charge” Se Proactivo “Yo estoy en control”

Habit 3: Put First Things First “Work first, then play” Pon primero lo primero “ Trabaja primero, luego juegas” Set priorities, make a schedule, and follow your plan. Work hard, play hard (in THAT order) Come to school ready to FOCUS and GIVE YOUR BEST EFFORT Realize there are only a few days of testing (working). Then, you can enjoy more laid back learning with your classmates.

Habit 4: Think WIN-WIN “Everyone wins.” Piensa en GANAR-GANAR. Todos podemos ganar My Family and teachers’ win: I make them SO proud and happy!!! My win: I go to the next grade. I graduate from High School. I will be a Community Helper.

Habit 5: Seek First to Understand then to be Understood “ Listen before I talk” Busca primero entender, luego ser entendido. “Piensa antes de hablar”. Listen to my parent’s advice: they know what’s the BEST for me. Listen to my heart: Understand, in my heart, I CAN do this!!! Listen to my teacher’s advice: use his/ her tips and strategies.

Habit 6: Synergize “Together is better” Sinergiza “Juntos es mejor, trabaja en equipo” Synergize with your classmates, especially during review time, to be as prepared as you possibly can for the test. I seek out other people's ideas to solve problems because I know that by teaming with others we can create better solutions than anyone of us alone. Celebrating together the ESL Family The Leader in Me and Diversity Night at ETES is a strength. I I value other people ʼ s strengths and learn from them.

Habit 7 : Sharpen the Saw “Balance Feels Best” Afila la sierra “El balance hace la diferencia” I take time to find meaningful ways to help others. I keep my BRAIN SAW sharp by completing all my EOG review practice and testing questions, read daily and give 100 % effort in ALL my school work.

Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind “Have a plan”/ Empieza con la meta en mente “Ten siempre un plan” Plan to use your strategies: Reading and math strategies, write in the test book, use your scrap paper to list any strategies/ reminders that will help you during the test. Do things that have meaning and make a difference. Visualize your goal: See yourself in the next grade, graduate from High School and be a successful Community Helper.

Together, we can raise our children to be Leaders!!! Unidos podemos educar a nuestros niños para que sean Líderes!!!

The Leader in Me (English) Hogaamiyaha aniga igu jiro (Somali) 領導者在我身上 Lǐngdǎo zhě zài wǒ shēnshang (Chinese) Le leader en moi (French) El líder que está en mí. (Spanish)
