2 Helping your Child Be Successful in the School

3 Como padre, usted es el primer y el maestro(a) más importante de su hijo(a). Hay muchas maneras como los padres pueden ayudar a sus hijos a aprender en la casa y a través del año escolar.

4 As a parent, you are the first and the most important teacher of your child. There are a lot of ways parents can help their children to learn at home and through the whole school year.

5 Desarrolle una sociedad con el maestro(a) de su hijo(a) y el personal de la escuela Conozca al maestro(a) de su hijo(a). La escuela le proveerá con los servicios de un intérprete (Sr. Banderas) Conozca a los maestros, administradores, y consejeros en la escuela de su hijo(a).

6 Create a society with your childs teacher and the school personnel Meet your childs teacher. The school wil provide you with the services of an interpreter. (Contact Mr. Banderas) Meet all your childs teachers, administrators and counselors of the school.

7 Desarrolle una sociedad con el maestro(a) de su hijo(a) y el personal de la escuela Asista a las conferencias de padres y maestros. Usted le puede avisar al maestro que usted necesita un intérprete. Si usted tiene una inquietud y no se puede reunir en persona, envíele una pequeña nota al maestro(a) o envíele un correo electrónico.

8 Create a society with your childs teacher and the school personnel Attend all the parent-teacher conferences. You can let the teacher know in advance that you will need an interpreter. If you have a concern and you cannot attend a meeting, send your childs teacher a note or send him (her) an e-mail.

9 Dele apoyo a su hijo(a) académicamente Averigüe como le está yendo a su hijo(a). Revise la libreta de calificaciones de su hijo(a). Busque ayuda con las tareas para su hijo(a) si es necesario. Comuníquese con la escuela, grupos de tutoría o programas después de la escuela.

10 Support your Child academically Find out how your child is doing in his (her) classes. Check your childs progress report. Look for help to support your child with his (her) homework if needed. Contact the school and get information about tutorial classes or programs after school.

11 Dele apoyo a su hijo(a) académicamente Asegúrese que su hijo(a) complete la tarea. Usted puede ayudar a su hijo(a) con la tarea creando un lugar especial para estudiar, estableciendo una hora regular para las tareas, y quitando la televisión y el teléfono durante las horas de tareas.

12 Support your Child academically Make sure your child completes his (her) homework. You can help your child with his (her) homework looking for a special place to study at home, setting regular times for homework and restricting the use of the TV and the use of the cell phones during homework time.

13 Participe en la Escuela de su Hijo(a) Aprenda lo que la escuela le ofrece. Pida recibir información en su idioma de origen si es necesario. Hable con otros padres para averiguar que programas ofrece la escuela. Hágase voluntario en la escuela de su hijo(a) y/o hágase miembro del grupo de padres y maestros de su escuela.

14 Participate in your Childs School Learn what the school offers. Ask to get information in your native language if necessary. Talk to other parents to find out what programs and/or sports the school offers. Volunteer yourself in your childs school and/or become a member of the Parent Teacher Association.

15 Esté informado y sea el defensor de su hijo(a) Haga preguntas. Si tiene alguna inquietud con respecto al aprendizaje o el comportamiento de su hijo(a), pregúntele al maestro(a). Sus preguntas pueden ser así ¿Qué problemas está teniendo mi hijo(a)? ¿Qué puedo hacer para ayudar a mi hijo(a) con este problema?

16 Be informed and support your Child Ask questions. If you have a concern about your childs learning or behavior, contact and ask your childs teacher about it. Your questions can be like these ones: What problems does my child have? What can I do to help my child with this problem?

17 Esté informado y sea el defensor de su hijo(a) Conozca sus derechos. Es importante saber cuáles son sus derechos como padre con respecto a los servicios especiales, enseñanza del inglés, y más. Déjele saber a la escuela sus inquietudes.

18 Be informed and support your Child Know your rights. It is important to know what your rights as a parent are concerning special services, the teaching of the English language (ESOL services), and more. Let the school know about your concerns.

19 Apoye el aprendizaje de su hijo(a) en la casa Demuestre una actitud positiva con respecto a la educación de sus hijos. Vigile los programas de televisión, video juegos, el computador y el uso de la internet de su hijo(a).

20 Support your childs Learning at Home Show a positive attitude concerning your childs education. Control and watch what TV programs your child watches, what video games he plays the use of the computer and the internet.

21 Apoye el aprendizaje de su hijo(a) en la casa Anime a su hijo(a) a leer. Ayude a su hijo(a) a convertirse en un lector, es lo más importante que usted puede hacer para ayudar a su hijo(a) a tener éxito en la escuela y en la vida.

22 Support your childs Learning at Home Encourage your child to read. Help your child to become an avid reader. This is the most important factor to help your child be successful in the school and in his future life.

23 Apoye el aprendizaje de su hijo(a) en la casa Hable con su hijo(a). El hablar y escuchar juegan un papel muy importante en el éxito escolar de los estudiantes. Anime a su hijo(a) a utilizar la biblioteca.

24 Support your childs Learning at Home Talk to you child. To speak and to listen to him (her) play important roles in your childs school success. Encourage your child to use the schools library.

25 Cuando los padres y las familias están participando en las escuelas de sus hijos, a los alumnos les va mejor y se sienten mejor al ir a la escuela.

26 When the parents and the families are participating in their childrens school, the students have a better performance and feel better at school.
