Cervantes Square Cervantes Square is the main square of Alcalá de Henares and the starting point to visit the historic centre of the city.

CAPILLA DEL OIDOR ALCALÁ DE HENARES This Chapel is in Cervantes Square and was part of a church which doesn’t exist any more. Its tower still remains. Currently it has a permanent exhibition on Cervantes and an area for temporary exhibitions. It was built in the twelfth century. The Chapel of Oidor is one of the most important exibition rooms in the city.

CAPILLA DEL OIDOR ALCALÁ DE HENARES Esta capilla está en la Plaza de Cervantes y fue parte de una Iglesia, la de Santa María, que no se conserva. También queda la torre. Actualmente alberga una exposición permanente sobre Cervantes y contiene una zona para exposiciones temporales. Fue construida en el siglo XXII. La Capilla del Oidor es una de las salas de exposiciones más importantes de la ciudad.

Alcala's University. The University was built in 1449 and founded by Cardenal Cisneros. The constructor was Rodrigo Gil de Hontañón. It is located in San Diego Square. Many important people studied here and it is a “World Heritage site ” The coat of arms has two storks because in Alcalá there are many storks.

La Universidad de Alcalá. La Universidad fue construida en 1449. El constructor fue Rodrigo Gil de Hontañón y fue fundada por el Cardenal Cisneros. La universidad se localiza en la Plaza de San Diego. Muchas personas importantes estudiaron aquí y es “Patrimonio de la Humanidad”. El escudo tiene dos cigüeñas porque en Alcalá hay muchas.

The Main Street of Alcalá de Henares The Main Street of Alcalá de Henares is one of the most important in the city centre. This street is the longest with arcades in Europe. From the 8th to the 14th of October we celebrate a medieval street market on this street. It's a representation of a medieval market from the10th century. You can find a lot of shops, birds exhibitions... in it.

La Calle Mayor de Alcalá de Henares La calle Mayor de Alcalá de Henares es una de las más importantes en el casco histórico. Esta es la calle porticada más larga de Europa. Del 8 al 14 de Octubre en esta calle celebramos un mercadillo medieval. Es una representación de un mercadillo medieval del siglo X, con puestos artesanales, exhibiciones de cetrería...

Archbishop Palace The Palace served as the residence of kings and archbishops in the city, and it was the place where Cristopher Columbus held his first meeting with Isabella I of Castile in order to finance his journey across the Atlantic Ocean to find a new route to get to India surrounding the globe. The Palace was also the place where Princess Catherine of Aragon and the Emperor Fernando of Germany were born. 

El Palacio Arzobispal El palacio le sirvió a los reyes y a los arzobispos como residencia en la ciudad y fue el lugar dónde Cristobal Colón tuvo su primera reunión con Isabel la Católica a fin de que financiara su viaje a través del Océano Atlántico para encontrar un nuevo camino para llegar a la India rodeando la Tierra. El palacio también fue el lugar donde nacieron la Princesa Catalina de Aragón y el Emperador Fernando de Alemania.

Casa de la Entrevista On the 20th of 1486 there was an interview between Cristopher Columbus and Isabel “La Católica”. This interview took place in the “Casa de la Entrevista”. In this interview Columbus told Isabel about his plan. The plan of Columbus was to sail across the Atlantic Ocean to go to India. But he found America.

Casa de la Entrevista El 20 de enero de 1486 hubo una entrevista entre Cristóbal Colón y Isabel “La Católica”. Esta entrevista tuvo lugar en “La Casa de la Entrevista”. En esta entrevista Colón le habló a Isabel de su plan. Su plan era cruzar el Atlántico para llegar a la India. Pero encontró América.

Santos Niños Cathedral The Santos Niños Cathedral is located in the Square with the same name. It is not very big like other cathedrals. Inside it is divided in three sections : the first is the entrance , the second is the chapel of the “Virgen del Val” , and the third is the altar of the cathedral. The Santos Niños cathedral is World Heritage. It is called so because there of the two martyr children buried, named Justo y Pastor . We hope you enjoy our presentation .

Catedral de los Santos Niños La catedral de los Santos Niños está situada en la Plaza del mismo nombre. No es tan grande como otras. Su interior está dividido en tres partes: la primera es la entrada, la segunda es la capilla de la Virgen del Val y la tercera es el altar de la catedral. La catedral de los Santos Niños es Patrimonio de la Humanidad. Se llama así Santos Niños porque ahí están enterrados dos niños mártires, Justo y Pastor, que fueron asesinados por creer en Dios. COMPLUTUM Complutum is an ancient Roman city, the origin of Alcalá de Henares. Nowadays Complutum is an open air museum for all publics. Complutum was a very important city in Hispania (ancient Spain) due to the great geographic position in Spain.

COMPLUTUM Complutum es una antigua ciudad romana, el origen de Alcalá de Henares. Hoy en día Complutum es un museo que pueden visitar todos los públicos. Complutum fue una ciudad muy importante en Hispania (antigua España) por la estupenda posición geográfica de España.

ROYAL BOTANIC GARDEN “JUAN CARLOS I” The Royal Botanic Garden “Juan Carlos I” is an Institution created in 1990 with the help of the University of Alcalá. Inside there's a beautiful rose garden, the most visited part of this site. Here is a photo of the entrance of the Botanic Garden and of the rose garden. 17

THE CACTUSES The cactuses are the most popular plants, apart from the rose garden. There are cactuses aged millions of years. There are 1.853 of different species of cactuses. This collection is one of the biggest in Europe. Here there are two photos of the cactuses. 18

REAL JARDÍN BOTÁNICO “JUAN CARLOS I” El Real Jardín Botánico “Juan Carlos I” es una institución creada en 1990 con la ayuda de la Universidad de Alcalá. Dentro, hay una bonita rosaleda, la parte más visitada de este lugar. Aquí hay una foto de la entrada al jardín botánico y otra de la rosaleda. 19

LOS CACTUS Los cactus son las plantas más visitadas, a parte de la rosaleda. Hay cactus que tienen millones de años. Hay 1.853 especies de diferentes cactus. Esta colección es una de las más grandes de Europa. Aquí hay dos fotos de los cactus. 20

Our High School “I.E.S Ignacio Ellacuría” This is the famous Ignacio Ellacuría high school where we send you all the postcards from. It is not very big but it has a lot of students and classes.

Inside the high school Here at school we begin the classes at 8:15 and we finish at 14:05 but one day we have one more lesson and we finish at 15:10. In the high school there is a gym, a library,a café and of course different types of classrooms.

Nuestro Instituto “I.E.S Ignacio Ellacuría” Este es el famoso Instituto Ignacio Ellacuría desde donde os enviamos todas las postales. No es muy grande pero tiene muchos estudiantes y aulas.

Dentro del Instituto Aquí empezamos las clases a las 8:15 y acabamos a las 14:05 pero un día, tenemos una sesión más y terminamos a las 15:10. En el instituto hay un gimnasio, una biblioteca, una cafetería y por supuesto diferentes tipos de aulas.

SHOPPING CENTRE Alcalá Magna The shopping centre Alcalá Magna is a very big mall. It was built on the 30th of October 2007 and in it you can find a lot of shops and a gym whose name is Virgin Active. Alcalá Magna is near the police station and not far from our high school. We normally go there with our friends to do some shopping, eat in a restaurant and also have fun.

CENTRO COMERCIAL Alcalá Magna El centro comercial Alcalá Magna es muy grande. Fue construido el 30 de Octubre del 2007. Dentro podrás encontrar muchas tiendas y un gimnasio llamado Virgin Active. El Alcalá Magna esta cerca de la comisaría de policía y no esta lejos de nuestro instituto. Normalmente vamos con nuestros amigos para comprar, comer en un restaurante y también para divertirnos.

LA GARENA 'La Garena' is a new neighbourhood located in the north of Alcalá. There're a lot of cool places there like a shopping centre, a sports centre, a train station, a school and a lot of restaurants. There's a square with a skyscraper: Garena Tower. It's the Garena's landmark and you can see it as you approach Alcalá from Madrid.

Torre Garena – Garena Tower The Tower is a building, in the northern of Alcalá de Henares, in a new neighbourhood, `La Garena'. The Tower is only for offices but it has a public restaurant. This skyscraper only consumes solar energy. It measures 73 metres high and it has 15 floors.

LA GARENA La Garena, es un barrio nuevo localizado en el norte de Alcalá de Henares. Hay muchos sitios interesantes como por ejemplo: un centro comercial, un polideportivo, una estación de tren, un colegio y varios restaurantes. Hay una plaza con un rascacielos: La Torre Garena, que hace que se reconozca la zona cuando vienes desde Madrid.

Torre Garena – Garena Tower La Torre es una construcción en el norte de Alcalá de Henares, en un nuevo barrio, La Garena. La Torre es de uso exclusivo para oficinas, pero tiene un restaurante público. El rascacielos sólo consume energía solar. Mide 73 metros y tiene 15 plantas.
