This is a game of pairs – the 6 x places for which there are pictures and words under different squares are – la piscina, la estacion de trenes, la playa, el castillo, el cine and el puerto. Pupils did learn places in the town in year 7 but this was a long time ago. You might want to try to elicit the vocabulary first through gesture and/or have some words written up in Spanish on the board that you then explain. As the answers come to light during the game, it would be good to practise ‘hay/no hay’ and relate back to Cambridge – this will reinforce the structure but also ensure that they understand what each item is. First the picture arrives, then the accompanying vocabulary, then the x or tick showing whether or not that place exists in Cambridge. Teacher can do the first few as modelling and then pupils can take over giving whole sentences. At the end a longer sentence is shown and pupils should be given 4 mins in pairs to generate some sample phrases using the information as a prompt. Teacher can circulate and then hear some of the examples whole class.
