Completmentos le, les Telling what you do for others

You have already learned the direct object pronouns lo, la, los and las. Now you will have to learn the indirect object pronouns le and les. Observe the difference betwee a direct object and an indirect object in the following sentences: 1.Juan lanzó la pelota. John threw the ball. 2.Juan le lanzó la pelota a Carmen.

In the preceding sentences, la pelota is the direct object because it is the direct receiver of the action of the verb lanzó. Carmen is the indirect object because it indicate “to whom” the ball was thrown.

2.The indirect object pronoun le is both masculine and feminine. Les is used for both the feminine and masculine plural. Le and les are often used along with a noun phrase a Juan, a sus amigos. María le dio un regalo a Juan. María les dio un regalo a sus amigos. Juan le dio un regalo a María. Juan les dio un regalo a sus amigos.

3. Since le and les can refer to more than one person the are often clarified as follows: – Le hablé a ella, a él, a Ud. – Les hablé a ellas, a ellos, a Uds.
