Superlatives

To talk about something or someone having “the most” or “the least” characteristic or quality, use the following formulas: El La Los Las noun más menos adjective

As always, make sure the adjectives agree in… NUMBER and GENDER!

The most intelligent student. = El estudiante más inteligente. The cheapest tie. = La corbata más barata. The most difficult exam. = El examen más difícil.

You can add on to the end of the sentence using “de” to name the group from which the things are being compared to.  El estudiante más inteligente de la clase.  La mamá más simpática del mundo.  La corbata menos cara de todas. *When using “todo” make it agree in with the group of things being compared to. (todo, toda, todos, todas)

The following adjectives have irregular comparative/superlative forms and do not use the words “más” or “menos” : Don’t use this: Use this: Más bueno Más malo Más viejo Más joven Mejor(es) Peor(es) Mayor(es) Menor(es)

1) This is the best school of all. Esta es la mejor escuela de todas. 2) That is the best tie of all. Esa es la mejor corbata de todas. 3) These are the worst pants that I have! Estos son los peores pantalones que tengo!

Wal Mart has the best prices. = Wal Mart tiene los mejores precios. Califronia has the best strawberries. ¡California tiene las mejores fresas. Kohl’s has the worst cashiers! ¡Kohl’s tiene los peores cajeros! Pancho is the best dancer! (bailador) ¡Pancho es el mejor bailador!

Mateo is the best football player. Kiana is the best runner. (corredor) We are the best students! They are the worst students! SJHS is the smartest school.
