2 There are different ways in Spanish to compare two things.

3 Comparing two things that are
different using: más + adjetivo + que

4 Juan es más perezoso que Carlos.
Adjetivo→ más que perezoso adjetivo Juan Carlos Juan es más perezoso que Carlos.

5 Ana es más atlética que Sara.
atlético Adjetivo→ atlética adjetivo más que *Remember that the adjective must agree with the subject in gender and number. Ana Sara Ana es más atlética que Sara.

6 Diana es más seria que Paco.
serio Adjetivo→ seria adjetivo más que Paco Diana Diana es más seria que Paco.

7 Comparing two things that are
different using: menos + adjetivo + que

8 José es menos amable que Julia.
Adjetivo→ amable amable adjetivo menos que Adjectives that end in “e” do not change for gender. They only change for number by adding an “s”. Julia José José es menos amable que Julia.

9 Notice that the verb changed to “son” because the subject is plural.

10 When talking about number you use “de” instead of “que” before the number.
más + de + número

13 ADJECTIVE ADVERB COMPARATIVE
The adjectives bueno/a, malo/a, viejo/a and joven and the adverbs bien and mal have their own comparative forms. They are NOT used with más or menos. ADJECTIVE ADVERB COMPARATIVE bueno/a bien mejor que better than mejores que malo/a mal peor que worse than peores que viejo/a mayor que older than mayores que joven menor que younger than menores que

Sustantivo + verbo + comparativo + sustantivo (noun) + (verb) + (comparative) + (noun)

15 El pescado es peor que el bistec.
Adjetivo→ malo peor + que adjetivo el pescado el bistec El pescado es peor que el bistec.

16 Las uvas son mejores que las fresas.
Adjetivo→ bueno Notice that “mejor” was made plural to match the noun it was comparing by adding an “es” to the end. + que mejores adjetivo las uvas las fresas Las uvas son mejores que las fresas.

tan + adjetivo + como

22 To say things are NOT equal you put a negative like “no” before the verb.

match the noun they compare by gender and number.

28 Los Superlativos To say someone or something is “the most” or “the least” use el/la + sustantivo + más + adjetivo los/las menos

30 “Mask” es la película más graciosa para mí.

34 To say that something is
Los Superlativos To say that something is “the best” or “the worst” out of a group or category add “de” then the group you are comparing it to el/la + mejor /peor + sustantivo + de + grupo los/las mejores/peores

35 Paco es el mejor alumno de la clase. + + + de + Sustantivo→ el alumno
Grupo→ sustantivo definido Artículo grupo el alumno la clase de + mejor Ana Pedro Juan Paco Paco es el mejor alumno de la clase.

36 Ana y Juan son los peores alumnos de la clase.
Sustantivo→ el alumno la clase Grupo→ sustantivo definido Artículo grupo los alumnos la clase peores de + peor The article must always match the noun in gender and in number (singular or plural). Notice that “peor” became plural→ “peores” to match the noun “los alumnos” . Ana Pedro Juan Paco Ana y Juan son los peores alumnos de la clase.
