Putting subject pronouns and verbs together……

In English…. For a simple, basic, declarative sentence…. Word order is…… Subject I Verb am Object/descriptive phrase intelligent Mariohas2 books

In Spanish…. For a simple, basic, declarative sentence…. We can have the same word order as English…… Subject Sujeto I Yo Verb verbo am soy Object/descriptive phrase Objeto/frase descriptiva intelligent inteligente Mario Mario has tiene 2 books dos libros

However, while English word order is very rigid…. Spanish is not. For example: When you change the word order in English, does the meaning remain exactly the same? What about Spanish?

Use of the Subject Pronoun…

What are these sentences saying in English? Yo soy maestra de español. Soy maestra de español. Tú eres artística. Eres artística.

What if the subject is NOT a pronoun? This is where we have to start looking at which pronoun is the equivalent of our subject. Ejemplo: Mario y yo = nosotros Tú y Marcos y Paco = ustedes

Once you know what the equivalent pronoun is, you can look and use the appropriate conjugated form of the verb. Ejemplo: Mario y yo = nosotroswould use SOMOS Mario y yo somos inteligentes. Tú y Marcos y Paco = ustedesuses SON Tú y Marcos y Paco son inteligentes

Vamos a Intentar unos… Gabriela _________ mi amiga. Mariana y Juana _________ competitivas. Paco, Nicolas, Mario y tú _________ atléticos. Isabel, Margarita y yo _______ estudiantes.

Ahora ustedes…. Escriban en el papel… 1.Laura y Raquel __________ estudiantes. 2.Jacobo y tú _________ amigos. 3.Pedrito ______ estudiante malo. 4.Cristóbal ______ de Colombia. 5.Nosotros _________ de los Estados Unidos. 6.Roberta ________ guatemalteca. 7.Juan, Diego y Carlos _________ colombianos. 8.Él _______ de Bolivia. 9.Tú __________ inteligente. 10.Ella no _________ musical.
