2 Ser Estar LET’S LOOK BACK TO HIGH SCHOOL… Describing what someone is like Telling someone’s name Stating someone’s ethnicity Describing an object is for things that are PERMANENT and will not change (except for time) Used with adjectives Talking about how someone feels Location of a person or object Talking about the weather Time Ongoing actions (progressive tense) Describing temperature Occupation is used for things that are TEMPORARY “How you feel and where you are, always use the verb estar ”

3 (Yo) estoy I am (nosotros) estamos We are (tú) estás You (informal) are (vosotros) estáis (él, ella, ud.) está He is, She is, You (formal) are (ellos, ellas, uds.) están LET’S LOOK AT THE CONJUGATIONS soy (nosotros) somos eres (Vosotros) sois es (ellos, ellas, uds.) son Estar Ser You guys are They are (m), They are (f) You are (plural formal) Remember: Don’t look at these like vocabulary words. Think of the process. For example. Instead of looking at “soy” to be defined as “I am”; look at it like “Soy is the verb ser in the yo form”. (Yo) (Tú) (Él, Ella, Ud.) He is, She is, You (formal) are You are I am We are You guys are (used in Spain)
