Unequal Comparisons & Superlatives

Unequal Comparisons Shows relationship between two people or things. In English, expresses the idea of “more . . . than” or “less . . . than” Compares using: Adjectives Nouns Adverbs Example: “Teeny is more competitive than Tiny.”

Unequal Comparisons (cont’d) In Spanish, expressed as “más . . . que” or “menos. . . que” Ejemplo: “Teeny es más competitivo que Tiny.”

Práctica Pat has more friends than Matt. Patricio tiene más amigos que Matt. Luis eats more oranges than Luisita. Luís come más naranjas que Luisita. Rafael is shorter than my father. Rafael es más bajo que mi padre.

Superlatives Shows relationship in a group of three or more. In English, expresses the idea of “most. . . of (named group)” or “least. . . of (named group)”. (Also uses “-est” at end of adjective) Example: “That is the dumbest thing in all the world.”

Superlatives In Spanish, expressed as “el/la/los/las más. . . de/en . . .” adj/noun group Ejemplo: “Eso es la (cosa) más tonta en todo el mundo.”
