Possessives Possessive ‘s (apostrophe s) and s’ (s apostrophe) do not exist in Spanish. In Spanish, the de construction is used. Jim’s book=el libro de Jim(the book of Jim) The students’ class=la clase de los estudiantes (the class of the students)

Use of Ser- to be You will sometimes use ser to express the wording “am” “is” and “are” soy somos eres sois es son He is the brother of Jorge (He is Jorge’s brother) Es el hermano de Jorge

Familia When talking about family members that belong to someone or relate to someone, you can use DE Es la madre de Jorge It’s Jorge’s mom (it is the mom of Jorge) Es el hijo de mi hermano it’s my brother’s son (It’s the son of my brother)
