El pretérito The preterit is the more common of the two past tenses in Spanish. It is used to talk about completed actions that happened in the past. It corresponds mostly to verbs ending in –ed in English. To form the preterit, remove the –ar/ –Er/ –Ir from the infinitive and attach the preterit endings.
