1 APUNTES: THE IMPERFECT TENSE
OBJ: TLW use the imperfect tense to tell of actions in the past with no definite beginning or end, For example, We used to swim in the pool. An L. Ford production © 2017 The Imperfect Tense is one of the past tenses in Spanish. 2. The Preterite tense is another past tense in Spanish. The difference between the Imperfect and the Preterite tenses is that the Preterite tense has a DEFINITE, CLEARLY STATED TIME PERIOD (ej. Last night, she studied=Anoche, ella estudió). However, the Imperfect tense DOES NOT have a DEFINITE, CLEARLY STATED TIME PERIOD (ej. She was studying=Ella estudiaba) The Imperfect Tense is used to express habitual past actions (ej. We used to eat lunch together everyday.=Nosotros almorzábamos juntos todos los días) The Imperfect Tense is used to express time in the past tense (ej. It was 5:35 p.m.=Eran las seis menos veinte y cinco de la noche)(ej. It was 1:15 a.m.= Era la una y cuarto de la mañana) The Imperfect Tense is used to express one’s age in the past (ej. He was 4 years old.= Él tenía cuatro años)
