1 Preterite of Regular Verbs

2 Preterite Verbs Preterite means “past tense”
Preterite verbs deal with “completed past action” The ending tells who did the action.

3 -AR Preterite Endings Just as -o, -as, -a, -amos, -áis, -an tell you that the action takes place in the present, -é, -aste, -ó, -amos, asteis, -aron, tell you that the action took place in the past.

6 BAILAR--to dance yo bailé tú bailaste él ella bailó Ud. nos. bailamos

7 HABLAR--to speak yo hablé tú hablaste él ella habló Ud. nos. hablamos
vos. hablasteis ellos Ellas hablaron Uds.

8 AYUDAR--to help yo ayudé tú ayudaste él ella ayudó Ud. nos. ayudamos
vos. ayudasteis ellos Ellas ayudaron Uds.

12 CORRER--to run Yo corrí Tú corriste Él Ella corrió Ud. Nos. corrimos

13 BEBER--to drink Yo bebí Tú bebiste Él Ella bebió Ud. Nos. bebimos
Vos bebisteis Ellos Ellas bebieron Uds.

14 COMPARTIR--to share Yo compartí Tú compartiste Él Ella compartió Ud.
Nos. compartimos Vos. compartisteis Ellos Ellas compartieron Uds.

15 ESCRIBIR--to write Yo escribí Tú escribiste Él Ella escribió Ud.
Nos. escribimos Vos. escribisteis Ellos Ellas escribieron Uds.

16 Preterite ¡OJO! Verbs that have a stem change in the present tense do not have a stem change in the preterite.

17 Preterite JUGAR (u : ue)
Juego con mi perro todas las noches……….pero ayer no jugué con mi perro.

19 Preterite Remember that in the preterite, verbs whose infinitive ends in -gar , -car or -zar have a spelling change in the yo form. All of their other preterite forms are regular.

21 Preterite sacar yo saqué buscar yo busqué tocar yo toqué
