DIRECT OBJECT PRONOUNS: So far, we have learned that a DIRECT OBJECT is the person/thing that receives the action in a sentence. We’ve also learned that DIRECT OBJECT PRONOUNS replace the direct object to simplify our sentence just like we do in English with “it” or “them”: “I eat the apple.”  “I eat it.” There are two ways that Direct Object Pronouns can be placed: A) Before a conjugated verb. (The one we just learned). Example: Carlos lee el libro. (Carlos reads the book.)  Carlos lo lee. (Carlos reads it.) B) Attached at the end of an infinitive verb. Next, we will learn how to put DOPs attached to infinitive verbs.

DIRECT OBJECT PRONOUNS WITH INFINITIVES What is an infinitive verb? An infinitive verb is a verb in its purest form, which means that it is a verb that has not been conjugated yet. In English, infinitive verbs: to be, to dance, to eat, etc. DIRECT OBJECT pronouns are found after (and connected to) the infinitive. EJEMPLO: Quiero ver la película. ( I want to see the movie. ) Quiero ver la. ( I want to see it. ) Note that the infinitive verb is placed in front of a conjugated verb, in this case is “querer” (to want) just like in English.
