Los complementos directos o Direct Object Pronouns (D.O.P.’s) They tell who or what receives the action of the verb. Example: Do you wash the dishes? Yes, I wash them. So, instead of repeating…the dishes…we use the word them.

What are the direct object pronouns? Me (me)Nos (us) Te (you) Lo/La (it/him/her/you) Los/Las (them/you all)

What are the direct object pronouns? How do we know which DOP to use? Use the definite/indefinite article that goes with the noun to replace the DOP. Where do we put the DOP? Either before the conjugated verb or in a two-verb structure, attached to the infinitive

Ejemplos: Ella pone el mantel. Ella lo pone. Yo lavo los platos. Yo los lavo. Mi padre prepara la cena. Mi padre la prepara.

In verb conjugation with infinitives When there are 2 verbs in a row and you have an infinitive the DOP may be attached to the infinitive. Ejemplo: Nosotros tenemos que lavar el carro. Nosotros tenemos que lavarlo..

Now, it is your turn to replace the DOP’s in the sentences. 1.Ella seca los platos. 2.Yo tengo que hacer la tarea. 3.Mi hermana va a comer la cena. 4.Mario y Justino comen las zanahorias. 5.Nacho no tiene el libro. 6.Nosotros escuchamos los discos.

Las respuestas Ella los seca. Yo tengo que hacerla. Mi hermana va a comerla. Mario y Justino las comen. Nacho no lo tiene. Nosotros los escuchamos.

Los complementos indirectos o IOP’s They answer the questions to whom or for whom. Example: Ana bought gifts for her friends. She bought gifts for them. So, instead of repeating…her friends…we use the word them.

What are the indirect object pronouns? Me (to/for me) Nos (to/for us) Te (to/for you) Le (to/for him/her/you) Les (to/for them/you all)

What are the indirect object pronouns? How do we know which IOP to use? Use the corresponding pronoun to tell to or for whom an action is performed. Where do we put the IOP? Either before the conjugated verb or in a two-verb structure, attached to the infinitive

Verbs like ‘gustar’ VERBS LIKE GUSTAR ALL REQUIRE AN IOP…. Doler=to hurt (duele, duelen) Gustar= to be pleasing to (gusta, gustan) Encantar= to love (encanta, encantan) Faltar= to lack (falta, faltan) Quedar=to fit (queda, quedan)

¿duele or duelen? You must look at what follows the verb to decide whether to use the third person singular (duele) or the third person plural (duelen) form of the verb. Me duele el brazo.Me duele el brazo. Me duelen los dedos.Me duelen los dedos.

Ejemplos: Soccer is pleasing to me. (A mi) me gusta el futbol Yo compro un regalo para mi amigo. Yo le compro un regalo.
