BusinessObjects Enterprise is the name used for the new infrastructure in Version 11. As you’ll see over the next few slides, you can almost think of it as Crystal Enterprise 11 with a new name and a few key Business Objects products from the 6.5 suite snapped into place. It fulfils the promise of ‘specialized tools-one infrastructure’ that we announced during the company launch and roadmap tour. Information Infrastructure is defined as: Information Infrastructure provides a set of common services to simplify deployment & management of BI tools, reports, & analytic applications. End user components include portal, scheduling, & software developer kits (SDKs), while administrative components include security, auditing, & data access. We provide: Open architecture for all BI content & applications Proven scalability, reliability, performance Support for industry standard security systems, application servers, databases, operating systems & portals Integrated system management, scheduling, publishing, & semantic layer The ‘base’ infrastructure is largely built around Crystal Enterprise. Crystal Enterprise is a services based, highly scalable architecture designed to deploy & manage all business intelligence content, user access & display & distribution to all users. Crystal Enterprise is PROVEN technology, fully architected for modern web standards. ALSO NOTE, Crystal Enterprise supports all BI (and some non-BI) content, not just Crystal Reports. Crystal Enterprise is an infrastructure for data access, reporting & information delivery that allows you to respond quickly to any reporting or application development need. Crystal Enterprise is designed to integrate seamlessly with your existing data, web, & application investments without imposing a new set of standards & processes. Our vision is to provide tools for Reporting, Query & Analysis tools for end users, & to help IT manage all these systems with a single, proven, infrastructure. All scheduling, administration, management, portals, portal integration kits, developer services for integrating BI into other applications will be handled by the infrastructure. The key benefits again is the ability to lower TCO by allowing the same infrastructure to be used by every individual BI project, while still allowing IT to standardize on one back-end management technology. BusinessObjects Enterprise 11 fully supports both the Universe and Business Views semantic layers. The dual support is to ensure that customers are safe in their current investment in our technology. Universes and Business Views have unique features for different user scenarios. Therefore, we are keeping both products active. Note that there will be very minor (if any) updates to Business Views in the 11 launch. PRESENTER NOTE: When discussing the semantic layer, it needs to be clear that there will be significant investment in the semantic layer to build an advanced product in the future. In other words, continual improvement & innovation as well as tighter integration into the infrastructure. All are key customer benefits that customers will get above & beyond what they have today. A Single semantic layer is planned for BusinessObjects 12. Single semantic layer is a superset of BusinessObjects Universe & Crystal Business Views. The new semantic layer takes advantage the powerful SQL generation of Universe & the extensible architecture & tight integration with the new Information Infrastructure from Crystal Business Views to provide database administrators & end users with the most comprehensive semantic layer imaginable. We will provide seamless migration from both BV’s & universes to the new semantic layer We also provide an updated, standards based portal we will call InfoView & portal integration kits. This will be fundamentally new portal interface with advanced functionality over the current product version. It is based on open standards so that ‘portlets’ can built for any portal. We believe that if BI is to be pervasive, it must be integrated into any portal, not just a separate BI portal. We give you the flexibility to use the out of box portal we provide called InfoView. Key Messages of DM: Monitor metrics requires an ability to easily create, manage and monitor metrics – Metrics can be easily created, and you can monitor these metrics through alerting engine. With metrics being tracked over time, you can look for trends. Gain insight – Interactive analytics tell you status, trends and forecast of your business. Not just a pretty dashboard, but comes with lots of meaningful analytics that can help you improve your business analytics, but key is that it’s 100+ relevant analytics. You can also extend your insight with set based measures, predictive analytics and process control analytics. 3) Provide visibility – Dashboards can be deployed to individuals, but in order to track and manage enterprise performance, you can’t work in silos. You need visibility to how the rest of the company is doing. Dashboard Manager allows you to define metrics for an organization, who gets them (security), and where the indicator (metric) is sourced from. You can also add a link to reports from a metric to give users the ability to understand root-cause. One of the primary challenges in driving organizational performance is the ability to communicate corporate strategy. With Strategy Maps and Metric Trees, organizations can easily share a graphical representation of strategic objectives, underlying goals, and metrics which help users track how their performance ties back to achievement of the corporate strategies and goals. It also allows owners to see how goals and metrics roll up to the corporate strategy. With the ability to define a target or ‘goal’ for a given metric, users can have role-based scorecards which summarize how they are performing vs targets at a given point in time, and drill to detail from here. Through a web-enabled browser, these scorecards can be easily shared through dashboards. Users can get a summary of how the metrics they care about are performing vs goals through the scorecard (viewed as part of their dashboard), then drill to detail from here with Recommended Actions. These recommended actions, or next steps, guide users to the appropriate reports, analytics, or general actions (e.g., send an , call a meeting, etc.) to get performance back on track for a given goal. Users can then collaborate to share insight and make decisions as a group and take action.
