 For DESCRIPTION, think of what you would say if someone asked you “How would you describe____?”  These are the essential qualities that define a person or thing and probably won’t change any time soon.  Example: Adres ES alto, atlético y inteligente Ser – D.O.T.

 The place a person is from their ORIGIN. The origin of someone or something is not going to change, so we use ser.  Example: Yo SOY de Westmoreland Ser – D.O.T.

 Use “ser” when telling TIME.  example: Son las dos y media. Ser – D.O.T.

 Use estar when talking about where something is LOCATED.  Example: Yo estoy en la clase de Español  or – El lápiz está encima del libro. Estar – Lo.Co.

 Use “estar” with CONDITIONS. Physical, mental, or emotional states. Things that are likely to vary over several hours, days, or even years can be conditions.  Estoy cansada en la mañana. (I am tired in the morning.)  Estás triste. (You are sad.) Estar – Lo.Co.
