Tan / Tanto comparisons

Tan Tan + Adjective + como We use ‘Tan’ when we are comparing adjectives. To compare people or things that are equal to one another, you use: Tan + Adjective + como As + adjective + as Ex: Mi casa es tan grande como la escuela

To make it negative… To say that the comparisons are NOT equal, we make it negative. Mi casa NO es tan grande como la escuela

Tanto(a) We use tanto(a) when we are comparing nouns. We use ‘tanto’ or ‘tanta’ to say “as much as” or “as many as”. Tanto(s) / tanta (s) + noun + como As much + noun + as Note: tanto(a) agrees in gender and number, so it must go plural if the nouns are plural.

Examples: Hay tantas casas como escuelas Hay tantos entrenadores como deportistas Hay tanto tráfico en Texas como en California Hay tanta ropa como en el centro comercial

UNA PRUEBA Hay _______ estudiantes en Northwest como en Colleyville Heritage. Mi hermana es ____ alta como yo. Yo tengo ______ dinero como ella. La voz de Carmen es ____ bonita como la voz de Victoria. Los chicos tienen _______ oportunidades como las chicas.

Respuestas Hay tantos estudiantes en Northwest como en Colleyville Heritage. Mi hermana es tan alta como yo. Yo tengo tanto dinero como ella. La voz de Carmen es tan bonita como la voz de Victoria. Los chicos tienen tantas oportunidades como las chicas.

Ahora traduzcan….. There aren’t as many students at Northwest as in Colleyville Heritage. My sister is not as tall as me. I don’t have as much money as her. Carmen’s voice isn’t as pretty as Victoria’s voice. The boys don’t have as many opportunities as the girls.

Las respuestas …. No hay tantos estudiantes en Northwest como en Colleyville Heritage. Mi hermana no es tan alto como yo. Yo no tengo tanto dinero como ella. La voz de Carmen no es tan bonita como la voz de Victoria. Los chicos no tienen tantas oportunidades como las chicas.
