Direct Object Pronouns

 Diagram each part of these English sentences: I want that skirt. He knows the teacher.  What is the subject (who), the verb, the direct object?

 Direct object pronouns take the place of the direct object in a sentence. For example:

 Instead of saying, “I want that skirt.” You can say, “I want it.” “He knows the teacher.” You can say, “He knows her.”  The word “it” takes the place of the word “skirt.” The word “her” takes the place of “teacher.”

me(me) te(you) lo(him or it) la(her or it) nos(us) los (them, you all) las (them, you all)

 Direct Object Pronouns, me, te, lo, la, nos, los and las are placed either before a conjugated verb or attached to the end of an infinitive.

Before the verb:  ¿Quieres comprar la falda?  Sí, la quiero comprar. After the infinitive:  ¿Quieres comprar la falda?  Si, quiero comprarla.

 ¿Vas a comprar la camiseta?  Si, la voy a comprar.  Si, voy a comprarla.

 ¿Isabel, tienes mi suéter?  No, no lo tengo.

 ¿Compraste los pantalones?  No, no los compré.

 ¿Tienes problemas con la tarea?  Si, ¿puedes ayudarme esta noche?  Si, ¿me puedes ayudar?

 When the pronoun replaces both a masculine and a feminine direct object noun, we use los. For example:

 ¿Cuándo compraste la falda y el vestido?  Los compré el sábado.

 ¿Hiciste la tarea? Sí yo ______ ________.

 ¿Compraste una limonada? Sí yo _______ _______.

 ¿Tú abuelo te llamó ayer? Sí él _______ _______.

 ¿Encontraron los sellos? Sí ellos _____ _______.

 ¿Maria leyó las cartas? Sí ella ______ ________.

 ¿Cobraste el cheque? No, yo no _____ _______.

 ¿Quién nos ayudó? John ______ __________.

 ¿Sacaste el libro? Sí yo ______ _________.

 ¿Compraste la camisa? Sí yo ______ _________.

 ¿Llenaste el tanque? Sí yo ______ _________.

 ¿No ves que estoy aquí? No no ______ _______.

 ¿Tienes el libro de Twilight? Sí yo ______ _________.
