Romans : 13.8 - 10 Brothers and Sisters: Owe nothing to anyone, except to love one another; for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law.

The commandments, You shall not commit adultery; you shall not kill; you shall not steal; you shall not covet, and whatever other commandment there may be, are summed up in this saying, namely, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

Since there is much to say about this subject, we will examine it again and see what the early Fathers of the Church had to say about it.

First of all, St. Paul reminds us that the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. That is all we have to do to please God. It is that simple. We owe each other the love of the Lord. It is a debt. It needs to be paid. The entire bible is an attempt to help us understand this love. We should be repaying this debt every day.

Primeramente, San Pablo nos recuerda que el que ama a otro ha cumplido la ley. Es todo lo que hay que hacer para complacer a Dios. Es tan sencillo. Nos debemos el amor de Dios unos a los otros. Es una deuda. Se debe de pagar. La Biblia entera es un esfuerzo de tratar de entender este amor. Todos los días hay que pagar esta deuda.

Origen points out that in many cases debt is equivalent to sin (Commentary on the Epistle to the Romans). I suppose this kind of debt is due to such things as use of illegal drugs, drinking, or stealing, or smoking, misspending money in unnecessary luxuries, lusts of the flesh, etc. Our money should be used in other good healthy ways.

Origen (en Comentario acerca de la Epístola a los Romanos) dice que en muchos casos deuda es lo igual que un pecado. Supongo que esta clase de deuda es la que se debe a tales cosas como el mal uso de drogas, borracheras, robos, o fumar. A veces la deuda se debe a que se malgasto el dinero que Dios nos da para gastos necesarios. Hay personas que gastan demasiadamente en lujos que no son necesarios.

Theodoret of Cyr says that if a man is well disposed by love for another person, he will not kill the one he loves, nor will he rape his wife, nor steal his goods, or do anything that will harm others. (Interpretation of the Letter to the Romans).

Teodoro de Cyr ( en Interpretación de la Carta a los Romanos) dice que si una persona esta bien dispuesta por el amor a otra persona, no matará a esa persona, ni violará a su esposa, ni robará sus bienes, ni le hará ningún daño.

Augustine says the rule of love is that one should wish his friend to have all the good things he wants to have himself (Of True Religion 87). I remember in a certain class the teacher had us write down all the things we wanted others to do for us. This took some time. We took it rather seriously.

I realized that was key to the healing from sadness, and depression, and thinking too much of oneself, and many other things that lead to people taking drugs. People need to know they are loved. Say it. Do it, many, many times. It’s as simple as that.

Our community should be known as a place where the love of Jesus is to be found, abundantly. For Jesus came to bring life in abundance. We can start by asking for each other’s name. And greet each other by name each time we meet.

Nuestra comunidad se debe de conocer como un lugar donde se encuentra el amor de Jesús, y esto en abundancia. Porque Jesús vino a traer la vida en abundancia. Podemos comenzar pidiendo el nombre de la otra persona, saludándose por nombre cada vez que se encuentren.

St. Paul in Romans 12.9 says: “Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good; love one another with brotherly affection; anticipate one another in showing honor. Do not grow slack in zeal, be fervent in spirit, and serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, endure in affliction, and persevere in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the holy ones, exercise hospitality.” That is what we should be known for.

San Pablo en Romanos 12.9-13 dice “Que el amor sea sincero; aborrezcan lo malo y apéguense a lo bueno. Como buenos hermanos, sean cariñosos unos con otros, anticipándose unos a los otros en mostrar el honor. En el celo no se hagan flojos, sean fervorosos en el espíritu. Sirvan al Señor. Que la esperanza los tenga alegres. Que perduren en la aflicción, y que perseveren en la oración.
