Present tense of regular –ar verbs
Verbs change In Spanish and English, verbs change depending on the subject (the person doing the action). This is called conjugating the verb.
Three groups In Spanish, there are three main groups of verbs; their infinitive (the unchanged form of a verb) ends in –ar, -er, or –ir. We’ll learn about –ar verbs first!
To conjugate To conjugate any regular –ar verb, take the part of the verb called the stem and add the different endings depending on the subject.
Stem To find the stem of a verb, drop the –ar, -er, or –ir. Ejemplo: the infinitive hablar Drop the –ar and you are left with the stem (habl-)
