3 Conjugating the verb In Spanish and English verbs change depending on the subject (the person doing the action). This is called conjugating the verb!!!

4 Infinitives Infinitives are the unchanged form of the verb. In Spanish, infinitives fall into 3 main groups!!! ar er ir

5 Regular –ar verbs To conjugate hablar or any other regular – ar verb, take the part of the verb called the stem (habl). Ejemplos: mir + ar = mirar nad + ar = nadar toc + ar = tocar

6 Adding the endings First take the stem, for example (habl) and then add the endings to the stem. That is what we call conjugating.

7 The equation (for those math lovers) (yo) hablar – ar + o = hablo (tú) hablar – ar + as = hablas (él) hablar – ar + a = habla I speak You speak He speaks

8 continuación (ella) hablar – ar + a = habla She speaks (usted) hablar- ar + a = habla You speak

9 continuación (Nosotros/as) hablar - ar + amos = hablamos (Vosotros/as) hablar – ar + áis = habláis (Ellos) hablar – ar + an = hablan We speak You all speak They speak
