To Make a Distinction…  There are two strands in LCISD’s Dual Language Program  One-Way Immersion classes only serve native English Speakers.  Two-Way Immersion classes serve both English speakers and Spanish speakers.  The goals are the same for both strands

Will my child’s participation in the Dual Language Program interfere with his /her English language development? Research shows that no long term delay in native English language development occurs for students enrolled in a TWI Dual Language Program.

¿Cómo Funciona el Programa?  Es un programa de alto nivel académico que incluye estrategias para alumnos con capacidades cognoscitivas superiores.  Generalmente hay dos maestros, uno en inglés y otro en español, son encargados de la clase. De vez en cuando uno solo maestro les da la instrucción en ambos idiomas.  Las clases se forman con alumnos que hablan únicamente inglés ó español ó alumnos bilingües.  Las lecciones nunca se repiten.

How Does the Program Work?  This program sets high academic standards that included gifted and talented strategies.  There are generally two teachers, one English monolingual and one Bilingual, deliver instruction for 50% of the time in each language. In some cases, one teacher delivers instruction in both languages.  The student population in each class may include English monolingual students, Spanish monolingual students, and bilingual students.  The lessons spiral and are not repeated.
