Mateo 8 : 28 - 34 Liberación de dos endemoniados  28 Cuando Jesús llegó al otro lado, a la región de los gadarenos, dos endemoniados le salieron al encuentro de entre los sepulcros. Eran tan violentos que nadie se atrevía a pasar por aquel camino.

29 De pronto le gritaron:    — ¿Por qué te entrometes, Hijo de Dios? ¿Has venido aquí a atormentarnos antes del tiempo señalado? 30 A cierta distancia de ellos estaba paciendo una gran manada de cerdos.  31  Los demonios le rogaron a Jesús:    —Si nos expulsas, mándanos a la manada de cerdos.

32 —Vayan —les dijo.    Así que salieron de los hombres y entraron en los cerdos, y toda la manada se precipitó al lago por el despeñadero y murió en el agua. 33 Los que cuidaban los cerdos salieron corriendo al pueblo y dieron aviso de todo, incluso de lo que les había sucedido a los endemoniados.

Matthew 8 : 28 - 34 The Healing of Two Demon-possessed Men 28 When he arrived at the other side in the region of the Gadarenes, two demon-possessed men coming from the tombs met him. They were so violent that no one could pass that way. 29 “What do you want with us, Son of God?” they shouted. “Have you come here to torture us before the appointed time?”

30 Some distance from them a large herd of pigs was feeding. 31 The demons begged Jesus, “If you drive us out, sends us into the herd of pigs.” 32 He said to them, “Go!” So they came out and went into the pigs, and the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and died in the water.

33 Those tending the pigs ran off went into the town and reported all this, including what had happened to the demon-possessed men. 34 Then the whole town went out to meet Jesus. And when they saw him, they pleaded with him to leave their region. Gospel of the Lord

July 4, 2007 Let me first mention that there are parallels to this story in Mark 5.1-20 and Luke 8.26-39. Mark and Luke have only one demoniac. Matthew has two. Since Mark was the first gospel written, his story is believed to be original one.

This is a rather vivid and weird story, told in terms understood best by the people of the times of Jesus. The story needs to be explained in their terms, and then we can make applications for ourselves today. For example, they believed tombs were homes for the demons. But since Jesús lay in a tomb three days he made holy the tombs of all who believe in Him. So today we know that tombs are where holy people are buried. And we honor and respect those holy places.

He important point of the story is that Jesus began to bring his power into pagan territory, cleansing it from demons.

They beg to be sent into the herd of swine.(Matthew 8.31).
