Adjetivos demonstrativos Demonstrative adjectives are use to "show" or "demonstrate" the locational relationship between the speaker and the person/thing being spoken to/about.  “This” “that” and “that far away in time and/or space” are the English equivalents of the demonstrative adjectives in Spanish. In Spanish, the only difference is that the demonstrative adjectives have to agree in number and gender

Adjetivos demonstrativos The decision whether to use "this," "that," or "that way over there" to describe where some item or entity is located relative to oneself is based on anwering "Yes" or "No" to these questions: 1. Is the item being spoken about closer to the speaker than to the person to whom the speaker is speaking . . . or within "arm's length" of the speaker? Use this. 2. Is the item closer to the person being spoken to . . . or within the immediate area surrounding the speaker? Use that. 3. Is the item being spoken about far away from the person speaking and/or far away from the person to whom the speaker is speaking? Use that far away.

Adjetivos demonstrativos SINGULAR & MASCULINE SINGULAR & FEMININE           This: este           esta           That: ese         esa           That (far away): aquel         aquella   PLURAL & MASCULINE PLURAL & FEMININE           These: estos           estas           Those: esos           esas           Those (far away): aquellos           aquellas Notice that the singular feminine “this” is similar to a form of estar. This one, that one The Spanish demonstrative pronouns are always a single word. The Spanish demonstrative pronouns look exactly like the Spanish demonstrative adjectives, but they all have accent marks.
