2 What is the Present Tense? Tells us what someone is doing right now –Enseño a los estudiantes. I teach students. The infinitives like hablar, practicar, and escuchar simply tell the action. The present tense ending tells us who is doing the action.

5 Okay…so how do I do this? To conjugate a verb, remove the –ar ending and replace it with the new ending. yo tú él ella usted nosotros vosotros ellos ellas ustedes hablar hablo hablas habla hablamos habláis hablan

12 Irregular Verbs Irregular verbs do not follow the rules of regular verbs, meaning that they conjugate in a different way. The two irregular verbs we will learn are ir and jugar.

13 Ir The verb ir is not an –ar verb, but is very useful and common. yo tú él ella usted nosotros vosotros ellos ellas ustedes ir voy vas va vamos vais van

14 Jugar As you know, jugar is an important verb because we use it with sports and games. yo tú él ella usted nosotros vosotros jugar juega juegas juega jugamos jugáis juegan ellos ellas ustedes This is called a stem change. The stem does NOT change in the nosotros or vosotros forms.

15 The preposition a A is often used after ir, where it means to, or after jugar with a sport. When using a: –a la with feminine nouns: Voy a la piscina. –al with masculine nouns: Juego al béisbol. a el

16 Ejercicio 33, página 101 Work with a partner to fill in the blanks using the correct forms of ir and jugar. Ask each other the questions. Make sure to use the correct forms of the verbs and the right preposition combination! Be prepared to share!

18 Weather Expressions The word hace is used to express many weather phrases. ¿Qué tiempo hace?= Whats the weather like? And here are some choices!
