1 Bellwork Think about your day to day language, the things you talk about. How much of it is about the things you like to do? Write a short paragraph discussing why you think we discuss our favorite things so much.

2 Gustar

3 Gustar - to like Gustar is used to describe what you enjoy or like. Gustar is unlike other -ar verbs; it is only used in the “el, ella, usted” form: gusta However, you cannot use gusta without an indirect object pronoun.

4 Indirect Object Pronouns Me - me Te - you-informal le - him, her, you formal nos - us os - y’all les - them, you

5 Phrasing with gustar me gusta - I like te gusta - you like le gusta - he, she, you like nos gusta - we like os gusta - y’all like les gusta - they, you like

6 Activities (Verbs) acampar andar en bicicleta bailar cenar en restaurantes cocinar correr dormir hacer ejercicio ir a fiestas ir al cine jugar leer trotar ver la television

7 Jugar deportes el basquetbol - basketball el equipo - team el estadio - stadium el fútbol (americano) - soccer, (football) nadar - to swim el partido - game (sports), match patinar - to skate pescar - to fish practicar un deporte - to play a sport

8 Phrases with Gustar Me gusta jugar fútbol americano. Te gusta cocinar. Le gusta ver la television. Nos gusta dormir. Les gusta ir a fiestas.

9 Turn to page 66 in your Spanish book.

10 Bellwork Write ten “I like” statements in Spanish. Be sure to use gustar and Spanish words that we have covered for the activities.

11 No me gusta In Spanish, to say you “do not” do something or like something, you must place the word “no” in front of the verb. For example, “no me gusta...” means “I don’t like...”

12 Example Negative Phrases No me gusta jugar basquetbol. No te gusta eschuar. No le gusta cenar en restaurantes mexicanos. No nos gusta escribir en español. No les gusta leer.

13 Phrases ¿Y tú? - And you? ¿Qué dices? - What do you say? ¡Qué interesante! - How interesting! ¡Qué divertido! - How fun! ¡Qué aburrido! - How boring!

14 Phrases ¡No lo creo! - I don´t believe you! A mí sí - For me, yes. A mí no - For me, no. A mí también - Me too.

15 Activity Using your “I like” statements from your Bellwork, you are going to interview your classmates to see if they agree or disagree. Be sure to use some of the phrases used in your notes to help the conversation.

16 Activity Look at the bottom of page 67 in your Spanish book. Practice Activity 11.

17 Activity Turn to page 82 in your Spanish book. With your partner, work through Exercise 9 and 10 on page 83. You will turn this in.
