Alguno(a) It must match the gender of the noun it replaces or modifies. If it becomes before a masculine noun: Alguno  algún Alguno is only used if it is NOT followed by a noun.

Examples Did you see any giraffes? ¿Viste algunas jirafas?  Do you have any tickets?   ¿Viste algunas jirafas? ¿Tienes algunos boletos?

Ninguno(a) It must match the gender of the noun it replaces or modifies. It generally comes before singular nouns. If it becomes before a masculine noun: Ninguno  ningún Ninguno is only used if it is NOT followed by a noun.

Examples No giraffes (“not one giraffe”) are here.   No tickets (“not one ticket”) are here. Ninguna jirafa está aquí. Ningún boleto está aquí.

Double negatives? GASP! Double negatives are actually acceptable—and required in Spanish! Double negatives are used when “no” is before the verb.

Examples I do not want anything. No quiero nada.   I do not like any movies. No quiero nada. No me gusta ninguna película.

Double negatives? GASP! If the negative word comes before the verb, there is no need to use the word “no” before the verb.

Examples I never went to the fair.   No one did homwork.  Nunca fui a la feria. Nadie hizo la tarea.
