2 Negative Constructions
To make a sentence negative, place the word “no” before the verb. Ella no pide ayuda. When the answer to a question is negative, 2 negative words are required. ¿Entregas tú la tarea? No, no entrego la tarea.

3 Negative Constructions
Here are some affirmative and negative words that you already know. Remember they are ANTONYMS.

Affirmative Alguien - someone Algo - something algún, alguno(s), alguna(s) - some Siempre - always También – also, too O – or Sí - yes

5 Negative Constructions
Nadie - nobody Nada - nothing ningún, ninguno(s), ninguna(s) – no, none, not any Nunca - never Tampoco – neither Ni…ni – neither…nor No – no, not

6 Negative Constructions
Negative words may come before or after the verb. Either: Negative word + verb + rest of sentence OR No + verb + negative word + rest of sentence

7 Negative Constructions
Nadie entrega la tarea. No entrega nadie la tarea. Nobody turns in the homework.

Nunca presto atención. No presto atención nunca. I never pay attention.

9 Negative Constructions
Unlike English, Spanish does not normally mix negative & affirmative words. English María doesn’t need anything. NOT María doesn’t need nothing. Spanish María no necesita nada. NOT María no necesita algo.

10 Negative Constructions
When you want to say “some,” change the ending of alguno so it matches what you’re describing: Alguna chica Algunos libros The same is true for ninguno, but ningunos(as) is only used when the noun it modifies exists only in plural form: No tengo ninguna clase hoy. No tenemos ningunas tijeras.

11 Negative Constructions
Alguno and ninguno drop the –o before a masculine singular noun & are always written with an accent. Algún libro Ningún armario Alguno and ninguno are used when not followed by the noun. ¿Tienes algún libro en tu mochila? No, no tengo ninguno.

Siempre entrego la tarea. Nadie va al laboratorio. Tengo algunos amigos en mi clase. Me gusta correr también. Escribo algo en mi cuaderno. Paco no trae ningunas tijeras a clase.

13 Nunca entrego la tarea. Alguien va al laboratorio. No tengo ningún amigo en mi clase. No me gusta correr tampoco. No escribo nada en mi cuaderno. Paco trae algunas tijeras a clase.
