2 Affirmative Sentences
You know how to write affirmative sentences! Affirmative sentences are sentences that state something actually happens. Examples – Yo como a las doce de la tarde. Ella compra ropa en el centro comercial. Tú llevas los calcetines.

3 Negative Sentences You know how to write negative sentences!
Negative sentences are sentences that state something does NOT happen. Examples – Yo no como a las doce de la tarde. Ella no compra en el centro comercial. Tú no llevas los calcetines.

4 Affirmative & Negative Words
There are certain words in Spanish that can only be used in affirmative sentences. These words are called “affirmative words”. There are certain words in Spanish that can only be used in negative sentences or negative situations. These words are called “negative words.” Each of the affirmative and negative words has a match with an opposite meaning.

Affirmative Words Negative Words algo - something nada- nothing un, una, unos, unas alguien- someone nadie – no one algún, alguno, algunos - some ningún/ningunos –none, not any alguna, algunas - some ninguna/ningunas –none, not any siempre - always nunca - never con- with sin - without también - also tampoco- neither, either todavía- still, yet todavía no- not yet

6 Using Affirmative & Negative Words in Sentences.
Affirmative Sentences Negative Sentences Yo como a las doce de la tarde también. Yo no como a las doce de la tarde tampoco. I eat at twelve in the afternoon too. I do not eat lunch at twelve in the afternoon either. 2. Yo compro algo en el centro comercial. 2. Yo no compro nada en el centro comercial. I buy something at the mall. I do not buy anything at the mall. 3. Tú llevas algunos calcetines. 3. Tú no llevas ningunos calcetines. You wear some socks. You do not wear any socks.

7 Writing with Negative Words
Negative words can be written in two places: #1 – Before the verb if there is NOT a “no” in the sentence. – ej – Yo tampoco como. I don’t eat either. #2 – After the verb if THERE IS a “no” in the sentence. – ej – Yo no como tampoco. I don’t eat either.

8 A few need to agree in gender & number…
Ninguno & alguno change to ningún & algún when written in front of a singular masculine noun. ej – Algún día voy a visitar España. Some day, I am going to visit Spain. ej – No veo ningún menu. I do not see any menu.

9 A few need to agree in gender & number…
Ninguno & alguno need to match in gender & number with the noun they describe. ej – Voy a comer algunas papas fritas. I am going to eat some french fries. ej – No voy a comer ningunas papas fritas. I am not going to eat any french fries.
