Adjectives: Describe a NOUN Must match gender/# Descriptive adjectives TYPICALLY go after the noun described. Some exceptions: Bueno/a and Malo/a Gran, Grande

Bueno/a and Malo/a These can come either before or after the noun they describe without a huge change in meaning. If they come before a masculine singular noun: Bueno  buen Malo  mal Examples: “Good friend” could be “amigo bueno” or “buen amigo” “Bad day” could be “día malo” or “mal día”

Pizarras blancas I have a good friend Yo tengo un amigo bueno. Yo tengo un buen amigo. Yo tengo una amiga buena. Yo tengo una buena amiga.

Grande Remember yesterday we talked about how malo and bueno can come before or after the word they describe. Grande also can come before or after the word described. HOWEVER, unlike bueno and malo, grande changes meaning when it comes before the noun rather than after.

Grande: After a word it means: big/large Before a word it means: great Before singular nouns it changes to gran Tengo un gran esposo. I have a great husband. Tenemos una gran escuela. We have a great school. Before and after plural nouns it is grandes. Ustedes tienen camionetas grandes. You all have big trucks. Tengo grandes amigos. I have great friends.

Pizarras blancas: He is a good friend. She is a good teacher. Él es un buen amigo. Él es un amigo bueno. She is a good teacher. Ella es una buena maestra. Ella es una maestra buena. They are great students. Ellos son grandes estudiantes. It’s a great book. Es un gran libro. It’s a bad book. Es un mal libro. Es un libro malo. It’s a big book. Es un libro grande. She’s a great sister. Ella es una gran hermana.
