Noun Modifier Ch. 3A
What is it? It is a noun that describes another noun. example: apple juice grape soda orange juice What part of speech typically describes a noun? adjective (which goes after the noun in Spanish) With noun modifiers, the noun acts like an adjective
How to format Because it is a noun describing another noun and not just an adjective, we structure the phrase a little differently: Noun being described + de + describing noun Orange Juice Orange = describing noun Juice = noun being described = el jugo de naranja
Careful Do not use the definite article in front of the describing noun, use only in front of noun being described The describing noun is almost never made plural, only the first noun can be made plural ex: el jugo de naranja los jugos de naranja (orange juices) el jugo de naranjas = WRONG
Practice: Banana bread Strawberry yogurt Banana yogurt Bacon sodas El pan de banana Strawberry yogurt El yogur de fresa Banana yogurt El yogur de banana Bacon sodas Los refrescos de tocino
