2 Before we get to estar, let’s review:
How do we say “to be”? SER How do we say I am? Yo soy; soy (we can leave out the yo) We have used ser to describe ourselves (ex. Sociable, athletic, funny, etc)

3 BUT, WAIT… There is another way to say “to be” ESTAR ALTHOUGH THEY MEAN THE SAME THING, YOU USE THEM IN DIFFERENT SITUATIONS (you can’t randomly choose which verb to use)

4 The verb chart Estar = to be yo estoy nosotros estamos tú estás vosotros estáis él ellos ella está ellas están ud. Uds. Estar is irregular in the yo form (AND it has accents)

5 The uses: Emotions: ¿Cómo estás?  How are you?
Estoy contenta  I am happy Location: ¿Dónde está el libro? El libro está al lado del escritorio

6 Del Del is contraction of de + el = del de + él does NOT equal del
* If de is followed by the masculine, singular definite article, use del
