Affirmative Words Alguien – someone/anyone Algo – something Algún, alguno(s), alguna(s) – some/any Siempre – always También – also, too
Details Alguno – agrees in number and gender with the noun it describes (Algún goes in front of masculine, singular words) *Alguien refers to a person; because of this, you place an “a” (it’s called the personal a) in front of it if it is the direct or indirect object ¿Conoces a alguien en la clase? – Do you know anyone in the class? *If alguien is the subject (doing the action of the sentence do NOT use “a”
Negative Words Nadie – no one/nobody Nada – nothing Ningún, ninguno, ninguna – no/none/not any Nunca – never Tampoco – neither, either
Details To make a sentence negative, you put a “no” in front of the verb ex: No voy a ir al baile I’m not going to go to the dance. In Spanish, double negatives occur frequently with most of the negative words on the previous slide, you will use double negatives (i.e. – you will see no in the sentence)

También vs. Tampoco También is an agreement with a positive statement - Me gusta bailar - A mí también Tampoco is an agreement with a negative statement - No me gusta bailar - A mí tampoco
Practice Does anyone have a pencil? ¿Alguien tiene un lápiz? I never go to the park. Nunca voy al parque Do you all go to the computer lab in some classes? ¿Van uds. al laboratorio de computadoras en algunas clases? No, we don’t go to the lab in any class.
