Ciudad Mujer is understood as an all-in-one center of services for women, mainly for those that have persistently been deprived of a free and autonomous exercise of their economic, social, cultural, civil and/or political rights.

Ciudad Mujer recognizes that social exclusion impacts on men and women in quite different ways, and in a more prejudicial manner on the latter than on the former. Furthermore, when an excluded woman is being mother, her social exclusion likely multiplies its negative effects all over the family. In the opposite way, social inclusion initiatives on women being mothers bring about direct and positive effects on family, mainly on children.

¿qué es Ciudad Mujer? Ciudad Mujer ofrecerá: Ciudad Mujer will offer: Servicios en salud reproductiva, particularmente atención pre y post natal, incluyendo vitaminas y suplementos alimentarios Atención odontológica Transporte gratuito de la vivienda a Ciudad Mujer y viceversa Atención psicológica a mujeres víctimas de violencia Servicios jurídicos Emprendedurismo (formación profesional y microfinanzas) Guardería y servicios de educación inicial Ciudad Mujer will offer: Services on reproductive health, mainly pre and post natal, including vitamins and nutritional supplies. Free round-trip transportation from house to Ciudad Mujer Psychological aid and services to victims of violence and mistreatment. Legal services and orientation Entrepreneurship (professional training and microloans) Daycare services and initial education for children

Ciudad Mujer could turn into a referential center for social assistance services, allowing the Government the opportunity to increase up its effectiveness on them and, at the same time, to know and measure the real impacts on women, families and communities, of the conditional cash transfers (CCT) and other social programmes addressed by the government.

Ciudad Mujer is linked to population data and a sad current reality where social exclusion based on gender is still: There are more women than men in El Salvador (52.7% | 47.3%) Masculinity index at national level: 89.9 Violence and discrimination against women is still a big problem at Salvadorian society.

Ciudad Mujer has been shocked by the problems in the public financial sector: This new government spent the first 6 months paying for debits contracted by the previous Government. During that time, the Government had money only for the official payroll The “first-stone” in Usulutan was sponsored by the US Government, under a condition: no natural nor anthropological emergency. One of this emergency would move the funds to humanitarian aid. Tropical storm IDA came and the funds went out.

Ciudad Mujer has, at this time, good news The Inter- American Bank for Development (IABD) has offered us financial support up to the limit of US $20 millions to build up many units of Ciudad Mujer. An IABD mission has visited El Salvador and met with different high functionaries to discuss and evaluate the project; the mission gave us its Ok to go for the next stage.. There are still some elements in the to do list: the administrative management scheme of Ciudad Mujer , the financial and institutional standing of Ciudad Mujer, and the geografical determination of the units.

Ciudad Mujer asks to the feminists and women NGO´s: Your help to make a partnership for the promotion on women´s rights. Your help to drew and implement the psycological attention model for women victims of violence. That´s why we need the information to make a country map of the services you´re offering for women.
