Superlatives

Superlatives These are used to express the highest or lowest degree of a quality.

Ejemplos: Mi esposo es el hombre más guapo de Irlanda del Norte.

Ejemplos: Ella es la chica menos amable del mundo ;)

Ejemplos: Ellos son los turistas más divertidos de los EEUU

Ejemplos: Son las chicas menos felices del mundo.

How do they work? Son las tres… Talk with your 3 o’clock partner and have a look at the examples. What do they mean? How do you format these superlatives?

El/la/los/las + [noun] + más/menos + [adj.] + de Superlatives Format: El/la/los/las + [noun] + más/menos + [adj.] + de

NOTE: The noun can be omitted if the person, place, or thing referred to is clear. Examples: Recomiendo el bistec. Es el más sabroso del menú. Javier es el más rico del mundo.

Irregular Superlatives: Bueno/a (good) El/la mejor (the best)  Malo/a (bad) El/la peor (the worst) Grande (big) El/la mayor (the biggest -age) Pequeño (small) El/la menor (the smallest – age) Joven (young) El/la menor (the youngest)  Viejo/a (old) El/la mayor (the eldest)

Ejemplos: Kyle es el mayor de la familia. Kyle is the eldest in the family. Kyle es el hermano mayor de la familia. Kyle is the oldest brother in the family. Es el peor equipo del país. It is the worst team in the country. Ella es la mejor camerera del restaurante. She is the best waitress in the restaurant.
